The publisher/Pioneer figures ought to be in the KM. The latest KM would have the Aug or Sept figures for the end of the service year.

    Thanks for these, Besty.

So really, only 470 Bethelites were reassigned, the rest of the 1,300 were just let go, as was my brother and his wife. The pioneered for a little while, but then the realities of everyday living set in and now neither of them is pioneering. They're working full-time. 1,300 is a huge number, that's almost the size of Wallkill! That's some pretty big "streamlining" -- around 20% of the total US Bethel Family.

Somethings won't be reflected in the stats.

How many congregations were disbanded or consolidated with other congregations in the New York City area and elsewhere in the United States

How many Kingdom Halls were sold

Only 13,000 baptized in the U.S.?

If that's true, that's a huge drop from the usual 25-35k that get baptized each year.

The above two stats are related. The wetbacks coming across the border get an automatic baptism in the Rio Grande. Since the USA gets to count the "publishers" it's only fair that Mexico gets to count the baptisms.

Amount baptized for 2007 in U.S. was 37,243.  The amount noted above indicated was amount baptized at the "district" assemblies this year.

Thanks for the stats. I can see why there are rumors about doing away with the COs. Even if you quadruple the number of districts from 47 to 188 and give those positions to current COs, there would still be approximately 475 COs that would be out of work. Most COs are married (lets say 400 out of 475), so that's really 800 people that you don't have to worry about any longer. While most of the expenses (car, housing, insurance) are paid for by the locals in one way or another, I can see how the move would help improve the bottom line. No surprises here but good information.

    besty...

thanks for the stats...numbers are a funny thing.....

4.6 new congregations formed per WEEK

that is 4.6 net per week....after closing down and merging some congregations...that number opening should go down again next year

    ISOT:

What is the average size of a congregation???

What does the largest assembly hall seat???  Do they rent out the assembly halls?

75 is usually the minimum required to form a new congo....To get average size you merely need to divide number of publishers by number of congregations..  In the November Kingdom Ministry, the total publisher count was 1,066,654...divide that number by 12,652...and you get 84.3 publishers average congregation size.  There are a lot of little hick town congregations much smaller than that...and there are larger (140+ congos) not big enough to split yet...so that gives you an idea on average.

The largest assembly hall that the Society owns in the US is West Palm Beach FL (the former "leaky teepee")...and I believe it seats about 6,000. According to the article cited at the end of this paragraph, it is the largest WT owned auditorium in the world....cant confirm....  I was at West Palm for an assembly a year or two ago, but cant remember the exact number of seats.  As to whether they rent these buildings out..no...and it is a point of contention with some in West Palm..they have no large indoor venues anymore after they sold the Teepee to WTBTS.  (http://www.rickross.com/reference/jw/jw366.html)

What jumps out here is the huge percentage of spanish speaking congregations within the total.  They must be losing large numbers of English speaking publishers and congregations and having that fact hidden by the increase among the Spanish.  I think the US has about 10% + Spanish speakers in the general population.

I would really really really like to see the English / non-English speaking ratio from 5, 10, 15, and 20 years ago. I'm 100% certain the Society has those numbers but would never in a million years release them - I'm almost certain they would show "negative growth" among English speakers of several percentage points per year.

Imagine the discouraging effect that would have on English-speaking congregations! 20 years of door to door work in the USA, billions of hours, resulting in a net loss of, what? 5%? 10%? 20%? more?

    Interesting information. Thanks!

So, 470 people were demoted to lower paying positions and 930 were laid off all together.

Anyone know if the layoffs are still ongoing? Like most corporations, you layoff departments that are not profitable or in line with corporate direction and individuals who perform poorly or have attitude problems you don't want to fire for fear of litigation.

Most of the strategic layoffs continue on a cycle until the numbers look better or the morale sinks to a point where natural attrition takes over. At least that's how they roll in the large corporations I have worked for.

    Fun stuff.

Seems 15% of USA population is Hispanic yet 25% of WTS Districts are Spanish so a bit of a bias there.

Check back in 5 years to see if the USA WTS are 60% Spanish...

(PM me if you want to know why I reckon 60%)
