Barbara Walters of 20/20 (USA-ABC Television) did a story on gender roles in Kabul, Afghanistan, several years before the Afghan conflict. She noted that women customarily walked 5 paces behind their husbands. She recently returned to Kabul and observed that women still walk behind their husbands. From Ms. Walters vantage point, despite the overthrow of the oppressive Taliban regime, the women now seem to walk even further back behind their husbands and are happy to maintain the old custom. Ms. Walters approached one of the Afghani women and asked, "Why do you now seem happy with the old custom that you once tried so desperately to change?" The woman looked Ms. Walters straight in the eyes and without hesitation, said "Land mines." |

Now about that pain tolerance.............you guys are just big wusses
Nope... we're still just "different". I'll explain...If a man smashes his thumb with a hammer and it splits his thumb and nail... he'll duct tape it and go back to work. However if a man feels a cold coming on, or a headache... he's a big , and needs his "mommy". Women are just the opposite... they can take long dull agonizing pain (ie. cramps etc), where as men seem to be able to handle more "acute" pain better.Men don't seem to "suffer" as well as the women folk do... This is a nice thread, Danny, thanks for starting it. Thanks, everyone else who said nice things about women, for saying them.
I think women are equal to men, different than men, complimentary of men. Like others have pointed out, things men cannot deal with, women can, and vice versa. Good job, women and men.
