Categorizing one gender as being guilty of a certain trait is never a good idea.  Excessive talking is never gender based.  Is that called starting out with a false premise?

Agreed. Some of the most long-winded people I've ever met were men. Don't even get me started on the closing prayers at the District Conventions.

Whenever someone talks too much I'll just start talking about my work. Within 2 minutes their eyes will glaze over and they'll do anything possible to get away from me. Mission accomplished.

To be quite honest, I do talk a lot, but only when I am in the company of other females.  I have a male and female roommate and the guy is always making comments about how it is so much quieter when one of us girls isn't in the house.  My female boss and I share a large office.  At my annual review she said that her only complaint is that I talk too much.  However, when I am on the phone w/ a guy or in a social situation which is predominantly male, I get the, "Are you alright?  You're not saying much" comments.

So I guess the answer is yes and no.
