This is about the time I came in 74/75. I remember a lot of us went to this place that was fixed up rather classey as a nightclub for disco. Some word got out and one elder wanted to know the names of all the persons involed so as to call a meeting. Hey it was all in good clean fun but someone was out to spoil the party as they say. I escaped the disco days from committie meetings but had to be very causous after that.

That is where I met my ex, at a disco and we were not DF'd. Maybe I should have been DF'd and then I would not have had to suffer all those years of an unhappy marriage....

I remember being stopped from going to the school discos.  I felt more acutely left out, regardling that, than any of the Xmas and birthdays stuff.

Nothing stymied dancing more, at weddings, than having a sea of disapproving looks from the sidelines.  Nonetheless, there was always one couple that looked really cool dancing to something reasonably fast from the 50/60s.

LT, of the "nostalgic" class... NOT!!!!

These articles from the Asleep and Wishtower continue to make me ill. They ought to make everyone read them that is studying so they can see just how INSANE these people are.

The Village People were gay and sang disco music. Therefore all disco music was gay. This according to my parents. Small minds from small people.

I have no idea why you guys were listening to Disco instead of Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd like you were suppose to.

    Amen, Preston!

...although I do recall having a black wrap-around disco skirt when I was about 13...wore it to 1 meeting and there were enought objections to it that I didn't get to wear it to KH again...

We had a more liberal KH; some of our young people went to discos, had disco parties, and went to Earth, Wind & Fire, Parliament, and Kool & the Gang concerts. Remember the Hustle? heheheh

I used to dance around to Boney M when I was 2. When you're little it's cute, when you're 18 you're worshipping the devil.. go figure.

I blame the societies hardheaded attitude to dancing for my lack of co-ordination now. When I was in a club a while back I managed to smash a table full of beer glasses, obliterated a neon wall-light fitting and nearly knocked myself out due to my lack of dance skillz. WT damages your health, official.

Late 70s and early 80s was my era, because of the music & dance.  That's how I met my wife.  I still consider myself as a bit of a disco bunny.

Me and my wife went to a seventies music revival weekend a year ago and strutted our stuff.  Gwen Dickie of Rose Royce was the main attraction - she was tremendous.

Wanna step out Doubtfully Yours and strut your funky stuff?

I remember when they said on the platform that Saturdaynight Fever was such a bad film and no witness should see it.

    Man, everyone saw it

huh. this is interesting. Of course I don't remember much at all from that era, but I got the sense that going to clubs/discos was the thing to do in our area.

As far as "erotic" dancing, most witnesses in my area are of latino origin. Salsa and meregue were always played at any social function. Noone looked down on that at all!

Wow, couple of things. First, they're condemning "Saturday Night Fever" in 1979, which is quite a bit after it came out in the U.S. (1977). I'd already seen it waaaay before they told me not to!

Second, Blondie, did you really find a WT article that had footnotes, or did I misread it? I don't think I've ever seen any WTBS publication with footnotes. It would take up space that could be used for questions!

Some of us managed to like both disco and rock-n-roll; my Evelyn "Champagne" King records are in the same rack with Led Zep and Pink Floyd. There's nothing wrong with a little variety, ya know!

And I find that disco is still damn fine music to clean the house by. I get a lot done when I put on my dancing shoes.

    Best,

O-kay my impressions of Jdubs and disco from that period i was born JW 1957

This is the highlights that i have collected from memory of awake/watchtower articles and numerous talks.

    This is what they said so here goes;

    A.) invented by homosexuals

    B) disco has a 4/4 time which is the 'opposite' of the heart and arterial rythyms so it must be 'demonic'.

    C) it whips disco goers into sexual frenzy and they go off unrestrained and have oral sex in the parking lot

At the natick mass asembly hall demo they actually played 'disco inferno' to make their point

I am a rock and roll man myself,Undaunted Danny
