"They announced that the world had in fact ended in 1914, and if the rest of us hadn't noticed, that was our lookout. It is astonishing in the face of such transparent evasions that this religion has any adherents at all. But religions are tough. Either they make no contentions which are subject to disproof or they quickly redesign doctrine after disproof. The fact that religions can be so shamelessly dishonest, so contemptuous of the intelligence of their adherents, and still flourish does not speak very well for the tough-mindedness of the believers. Gerard,Thanks for your thread and the web site. I am a fan of Carl Sagan. He was a man ahead of the times. This article makes me want to go out and buy his book called Broca's Brain. Have you read that by any chance?Sentinel

I loved "Cosmos", I even went out and bought the music by Vangelis. After reading the whole quote, I must admit I feel embarrassed. I believed what I wanted to believe and saw what I wanted to see. I look back on my life as a Witness and all I can feel is that sense of embarrassment at how I duped myself to believe what they taught.
