Here's a letter that has circulated among many EX-Watchtowerites!

Just thought you'd want to know!

Awake! More Than a Magazine, It's a GREAT Idea!

Re: Announcement to be read following Watchtower Study during week of April 2, 2012

    Dear Brothers:

The Internet is a technology that Jehovah’s organization is using to good advantage to spread the good news to all corners of the earth. Consider the impact our Web sites are having. On a typical day, 400,000 people, both Witnesses and non-Witnesses, visit watchtower.org, jw.org, or jw-media.org.

They read our publications online in over 430 languages. Each day they download close to half a million audio, text, or sign-language-video files. Every day a hundred requests for Bible studies are sent in. To enhance the effectiveness of our use of the Internet, the Governing Body has decided to consolidate the three sites into one site called jw.org. The Web site will be completely redesigned. It will be appealing and easy to navigate using either a computer or a mobile device.

The redesigned jw.org Web site is planned for release around the beginning of June 2012. It will paint an appealing picture of our preaching work, branch offices, Kingdom Halls, and conventions.

A newsroom section will provide up-to-date reporting on events affecting God’s people
worldwide. Selected features from our magazines that can be presented more effectively on the Web site will now be published only on jw.org. These include the following: “For Young People,” “My Bible Lessons,” and the Gilead graduation report from the public edition of The Watchtower and “For Family Review” and “Young People Ask” from Awake! In addition, a series of online articles available only on the Web site will provide concise, clear answers to questions about the Bible and about Jehovah’s Witnesses.

The Governing Body has noted the growing tendency for people to obtain reading material
from the Internet and has carefully weighed the effect this trend is having on the printing industry and on our ability to obtain paper and equipment for printing. Based on these changing conditions, effective with the issues of January 2013, Awake! and the public edition of The Watchtower will be reduced from 32 pages to 16 pages. These magazines that we distribute to the public will continue to provide a rich supply of enlightening material to attract people to the truth of God’s Word. Since each issue will contain less material, it may be possible for more translation teams to be able to translate every issue of Awake! and the public edition of The Watchtower, thus increasing the number of languages in which they are available. The study edition of The Watchtower will continue to be a 32-page magazine.

The Governing Body is confident that these adjustments will enable us to reach even more
people with the Bible’s life-saving message while continuing to provide a rich supply of nourishing spiritual food for the worldwide brotherhood.

    Your brothers,
    cc: Traveling overseers

PS to coordinator of the body of elders:

This matter should be kept strictly confidential among the elders until the letter is read in your congregation. Please arrange for this letter to be read to the congregation following the Watchtower Study during the week of April 2, 2012. This will be the same day as the special talk. In most congregations this will be Sunday, April 8, 2012. The brother who delivered the special talk should be invited to read this letter to the audience, if he is available to do so. Thereafter, this letter should be posted on the information board for four weeks.

The reading of this letter is in addition to the shorter announcement to be read by the chairman immediately following the special talk as outlined in the letter dated February 1, 2012, to all bodies of elders. Therefore, the chairman will read the shorter announcement following the special talk and before the Watchtower Study. Following the Watchtower Study, the brother who delivered the special talk will read this letter and thereafter introduce the concluding song

SNARKY APOLOGIST- Welcome to the board ! Thanks for the information. I find some very interesting " reading between the lines " in what I feel is motivating the WT society to do this.

    1. First, which is obvious is cost. The quote from your thread, " Governing Body has noted the growing tendency for people to obtain reading material from the Internet and has carefully weighed the effect this trend is having on the printing industry and on our ability to obtain paper and equipment for printing. "

    2. Yet the FIRST part of that quote, ' GB has noted the growing tendency for people TO OBTAIN READING MATERIAL from the Internet ' - is also an indicator they realize the pressing need to offset the negative publicity the WT society is getting from lots of Internet websites which divulge the scandals , injustices, lies, and failed prophecies they keep controlling their JW members with. WT leaders are feeling the heat of being exposed on the Internet. So- they are capitulating and trying to fight fire with fire. But it's too late- the cows are out of the barn. They can't prevent thousands of pieces of information from other Internet websites. Even WITH this new modified website .

    3. Another note- Notice the WT society is cutting back the PUBLIC magazines to 16 pages, yet keeping the WT study issues at 32 pages for active JW's. My theory on that is that WT leaders are MORE concerned with MAINTAINING control over JW's who are already in the organization - than throwing dead money in printing literature for non-Witnesses who they DO NOT control yet- just my take.

So- these are things I noticed. Thanks for posting this, Peace out, Mr. Flipper

Well, the WTS has dispensed false prophesies for years, but they got this right! Many people are finding out alot more than they started out wanting to know about the WTS by means of the internet...let's hope the trend continues!!!!

We need to do everything possible to make sure JWFacts and any other apostate websites show up in the top 5 google search results when someone searches for anything relating to the Watchtower. Rite now a website called tower watch is #4 if you search "Jehovah Wittness" a search for "watchtower" has the entire first page of results dominated by official JW websites, Freeminds is second from the bottom.

Coming from a major Chicago metropoloitan newspaper for over a decade, and seeing it's decline firsthand by the internet, I understand the WHY behind what they are doing!

    Newsprint, ink, etc...costs $

    The internet is basically FREE!

    1. First the Watchtower DEMONIZED the internet!

    2. Then they used it, but warned their followers to not use it.

    3. NOW, they will encourage them to use it but only to receive THEIR information.

    Sounds like CYBER-CONTROL to me.

So the GB realize their present method of doing from door-to-door is not effective. Why not go the whole route, use T.V./RADIO/INTERNET to spread the good news(not sure why they call it good news here)when it's God's Kingdom everwhere else.

I can see the R&F bending their knees to this false god gb/fds and saying, it a great thing. When many here are light years ahead of these doo-doo birds.

The Internet is a technology that Jehovah’s organization is using to good advantage to spread the good news to all corners of the earth.

I remember when the internet was in the beginning phase that the WT said that it was from Satan.

How can something what is Satan's be used to good advantage?

No wonder JWs are so mixed up.

    lol Sad!

You mean they're replacing me with the internet?! How dare they minimize my effectiveness as an active witness of Jehovah! God am I angry... ...make that doubly angry

I am shocked, livid and offended that a mere technological means is assessed by the Brothers as more effective at spreading the good news than I am. I will never get over this - ever! What's that you say? I can now sleep in weekends and never trudge around the streets in my pastel crimpolene suit with mismatched shirt and tie, never again have to write down the endless list of not-at-homes, never have to hand out the magazines to thankless people, never spend hours stifling the bone-crunching boredom of doing the JW shuffle down uninviting streets. You mean I can instread go to Dunkin' Do-nuts or Wendy's on Satrudays without feeling guilty because the internet is on 24/7 and does the work more effectively than me. I hadn't realized.....

What a fk*g relief it iwill be to never ever feel guilty about not going out in the ministry ever again. Thank you Jehoe-vah! Thank you Brothers! Thank you most of all the Internet - you are so much more effective than little old weary me at spreading the word. You have removed any remaining sense of squeaky urgency and need I have to preach. Man am I celebratin' this Saturday. Any other active witness want to join me at Wendy's? We can surf the net while were at it.

The letter is a fake. Unless the GB are writing letters to bodies of elders in simplified english the wording of the letter is not in the style of the writing dept.

While i enjoy and appreciate the humour of the spoof letter it is not to be trusted.
