Ah, deception must be so-o-o-o-o-o- easy when you can deal with people who have no critical thinking skills.

An amazing example? The past November Awake magazine ! The cover asks, "Is Belief In A Creator Reasonable?"

In the cover background picture, it shows skeletons from a Tyrannosaurus Rex and a Tricerotops. There also is some sort of large attacking predator in a museum diorama.

Now, a person with a few neurons to rub to together (probably not one of Jehovah's Witnesses) might reason, "The Bible says that God created everything (Rev. 4:11) so God created a 25 foot tall horror with razor sharp teeth like an alligator and another creature that has long sharp horns and a bony plate to protect its neck .... and other stuff that hunted, killed and savagely acted 'red in tooth and claw'."

"So, I guess my answer would be No, it isn't reasonable - unless you think God is a crazed, evil psychopath."

Oh, but wait.... hold onto your gag reflex! Page 29 tells us that "Slightly more than 10 percent" of American adults have left the Catholic Church after having having been raised Catholic" Imagine ! (gasp) a loss of 10 percent of Catholic kids ! Why think how those other religions must feel about losing FAR MORE than 10 percent!

Ok, you can vomit now (I'll hold your hair back).

Are you implying that the Awake is saying the Catholic Church is a dinosaur?

Remember: They want to believe it's the truth therefore it is the truth. That is all there is to it. Critical thinking skills are always non-existent. ;)

Ha! Thanks for the Asleep! summary. I literally never even opened the piece of crap, nor did I 'place it' in FS.

T-Rex was the top predator back in the Jurassic times- and yet that perfect creation by Jehovah is now extinct. I guess, because T-Rex got too big for his britches - and now humans are the top preadtor. Which begs the questions- how long will it be before we are extinct, too? Who will be the new top predator after us?

I almost away shocking how such ignorant people can trumpet their ignorance and how JWs revel in such trash. Ignorance is loved.

And that of course is why college is so frowned upon.

It is not the fact that at college you may have sex.

It is not the fact that you could be regular pioneering instead of being in college.

It is because college teaches you CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS -and that is a no-no for the WTBTS

STILLAJWELDER - you nailed it. When I went to my college orientation day last spring, over and over the speakers emphasized that, if anything, they wanted the students to leave college with CRITCAL THINKING SKILLS.

    It all clicked. . . .

    Metatron:

Please! I am in suspense here! What conclusion did Awake! come to?

I am assuming that because it used the word 'reasonable' it has examined the unbiased evidence and concluded that the WTBTS teachings were wrong, that creation is just a myth, and that the world really is older than 6,000 years.

    Should I hold my breath?

Another contradiction is that while some of the dinosaurs are obviously predators, there is a JW belief that all the animals were herbivores before the Flood (although I'm not sure if that belief is official).

Hard to believe they would have the nerve to say something like this, when almost 2/3 of Witness youths leave, as reported from pewforum.org a couple of years ago.

Thanks Drop, that was going to be my comment. Of the 5 JW baptized in my graduation class, including myself, only ONE is still in, 29 years later. To me that is a lot more than 10 percent. Of course, I can name a lot more than just us 4 that has left to add up to a greater percentage. They must be doing some creative math and the sheep are too dumb to figure it out.

    The pewforum study has been discussed a few times on this forum, here is one of the recent discussions;

so God created a 25 foot tall horror with razor sharp teeth like an alligator

And yet it was a herbivore, since meat eatting did not begin until after the flood.

The dinosaurs are extinct because they refused to go out in service and go to meetings, they were mentally diseased and deserved what they got.

Is Questioning Who Created the Creator Unreasonable?

I am assuming that because it used the word 'reasonable' it has examined the unbiased evidence . . . Joe Grundy

That would be a first . . . but alas no. Yet another fine example of selective and misleading quotes from fringe "scientists" and lashings of creationist bias. Scientist Donald E Johnston is a proponent of "intelligent design". Any evolution specialist quoted is referred to as an "evolutionist" rather than "scientist". The mainstream evolutionary scientist is the enemy . . . the fringe scientist the hero of the day. Statements from reputable scientists supporting evolutionary theory are cleverly presented as "dissenters" working for God when selectively quoted, when their stance is nothing of the sort.

For example there is this quote from the awake . . .

Wojciech Makalowski says that such thinking “repelled mainstream researchers from studying noncoding [junk] DNA,” with the exception of a small number of scientists, who, “at the risk of being ridiculed, explore unpopular territories. Because of them, the view of junk DNA . . . began to change in the early 1990s.” Now, he adds, biologists generally regard what was called junk “as a genomic treasure.” . . . Awake 11/2011

What they don't go on to say is that these "genomic treasures" called "transposons" may well be responsible for genetic mutation and involved in the evolutionary variations of protiens and consequently the DNA code itself.

Makalowski describes them, are like "little autonomous entities that live in the genome." With their special DNA codes, they can "make offspring and move around," that is, they can induce the cell to make a copy of their sequence and then reinsert that copy into another part of the genome. If the new copy happens to land in the middle of a coding sequence, however, it can cause a fatal mutation. For this reason, some scientists have considered transposons genetic parasites that breed at the expense of the genome they live in. But Makalowski is sticking up for the little guys, arguing that they are more helpful than harmful — a kind of genetic symbiont.
Perhaps a more important function of transposons comes from their ability to change the way DNA code is edited before the information is used to build a useful protein. DNA in the cell's nucleus is first copied and then exported to the protein manufacturing centers. However, this rough draft of the genetic plan is full of junk code that special molecules — like little editors — have to trim out, leaving only the sections of code that are actually used for building the final molecule. These little editors can bind to the special bit of code between the useful and junk DNA, called "splicing sites," and cut the strand. When certain transposons jump into the mix, however, they can introduce new cutting sites and interfere with old ones. By this means, new pieces of DNA get into the final draft of the code, and new variations of proteins are manufactured. Even a tiny change can have a huge impact (for good or ill) on a protein's properties. —Joseph Gyekis

It's full of examples like this in order to make it sound learned and scholastic. But once again it is selective to the point of being dishonest in creating a false impression . . . surprise surprise. Without a critical review however . . . it is able to fool elementary level students . . . which is 99.9% of JW's.

I agree Pyramid, they somehow sinned so they got hit with a meteor and were destroyed. We were plan B.

Genesis 8x:11 The Lord saw how great the dinasour's wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. The Lord was grieved that he had made dinasours on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain. So the Lord said, “I will wipe dinasourkind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth—for I am grieved that I have made them. ... But mammals found favor in the eyes of the Lord. I establish my covenant with you mammals: Never again will all life be cut off by a meteor; never again will there be a meteor to destroy the earth." ...

Genesis 9:11 The Lord saw how great man’s wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. 6 The Lord was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain. 7 So the Lord said, “I will wipe mankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth—men and animals, and creatures that move along the ground, and birds of the air—for I am grieved that I have made them.” 8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. I establish my covenant with you: Never again will all life be cut off by the waters of a flood; never again will there be a flood to destroy the earth."

Genesis 10x:11 The Lord saw how great man’s wickedness on the earth had become yet again, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. 6 The Lord was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain. 7 So the Lord said, “I will wipe mankind, not with a meteor, and not with flood, but with the iron scepter of my son, and the cleasing heat of fire ."
