I need help with a family situation that is brewing and WILL get out of control. A younger relative has been living with an older relative for, lets just say, a few decades. The younger relative has an "ok" job and gets free rent, electricity, etc. The older relative has grown, well, much older and would otherwise live a lonely life. The older relative benefits by having the companionship and someone to make sure he is ok. Both the older and younger relatives are active Jehovah's Witnesses. They even go together to the same Kingdom Hall and meetings. The whole Kingdom Hall sees the benefit that is derived from this relationship. The younger relative has a new offer to work from home from the exisitng employer. This will save about 5 tanks of gas a month, and mean no more dangerous middle-of-the-night driving. It will meant that the younger relative will be home "more" to look after the older relative. Also, that the younger relative will have more time for JW service. The catch is that there is computer equipment involved, and an unused spare bedroom would have to now have a desk and telephone equipment (all paid for by the company). The older relative does not want to open the spare bedroom into an office, for whatever reason. I think the older relative wants the house "just so" after Armegheddon when the spouse comes back alive. (Never mind that the house could be destroyed at ARmegheddon...) The older relative wants the younger relative to use a shed in the backyard as the office! Nevermind that the computer equipment would not be safe and secure, uninsurable, subject to weather extremes, etc. Both are calling the other "selfish" for not allowing this. Doesn't the Watchtower Society tell the individual Jehovah's Witnesses to treat each other with kindness of a Christian heart? THe way I see it is these two are a "family unit" and there should be give and take. I say let the spare bedroom be used as an office. Anyway, I need some good "Watchtower/Awake" type "Christian" articles to solve this problem. Otherwise, the younger one has likely had enough of the older one, and vice versa. Thanks,

Well, my first knee-jerk reaction is that the "younger" member has had it pretty damn easy for "a few decades". If he/she is living rent free in this house and the owner doesn't want them opening up a home office, then the younger person just needs to get off his/her wallet and get their own place. The older person might be selfish but it is their house so they have the right to be. I think the younger person is a free-loader. Sorry that this isn't WT style advce. I live in the real world... |

Small loan to build an extention onto the residence and allowing the spare to be used until the construction is completed? The WT wouldn't get involved only to suggest strongly that Xian principles should be upheld. If an extention is out of the question than perhaps it can be suggested that the job and equipment would no longer be needed in the NewSystem™ and upon the dearly beloved's resurrection could be moved to the storage shed or recycled as instructed by the Anointed Rulers, and won't it be great to see (insert deceased's name) young, strong and full of vigor again helping young (insert younger JW's name) remove the inferior technology of Satan's System! All in all it is the older's property and they have the final say........and the younger can always move out and set up shop in their own residence, still giving them opportunity to 'check in' on the older and increase his WTS service |
