The medical bed arrived yesterday at 10:15 AM after I left the nursing facility and got it all set up. It's a single bed with a regular mattress and a gel mattress on top of it. The only thing that's not motorized is to raise the bed higher, it has an old fashioned crank on it.

After he left, I went straight to the renal center to wait for her to get off and be picked up by the ambulance crew to take her home. Come to find out that they forgot to hand over the meds that belonged to her. So I called them and they admitted they screwed up. I had those bags in my hands and they wouldn't let me take it, stating "What if there was an emergency??" so I am thinking, "What could happen in two hours before my wife finally leaves the facility?" Didn't make sense to me.

So they sent someone to hand deliver the meds later that evening.

When we got home, we had a party waiting for her. Big ol' sign that said, Welcome home!". I picked up a bucket of some of that new chicken from KFC (grilled chicken, much healthier in fact) along with the meal deal. We ate until we were about ready to explode!

Then she got to see her new medical bed, at first she was disappointed that it wasn't a twin bed. But I told her if it was a twin bed, how will she reach both rails to pull herself around if they were so far apart? She got my point. It's not easy to clean and change her with that bed being that small, but it works nonetheless.

Since we're working on getting her a lift that will help raise her from the bed to the chair, it'll take alot of muscles on my part and her efforts to get on the bed. Man, I was in sweat by the time I got all that done and she was out of breath. Poor baby.

She saw my roses I got for her. She sure smiled.

I showed what I got for her to help keep constant communication, the strobe lights. She really liked that idea. So I'm her nurse on call 24/7

Then this morning I made her first hot breakfast, something she hasn't had in a while because the food there gets cold by the time it reaches her lips. Then I did all the usual stuff, sugar check, meds, changed her over, etc.

Then I picked up that $50 gift card from the drug store, the supervisor of the drug store called me like 2 months ago wondering why her scripts hasn't been updated since last year and I told her why. Then she asked me if she had BP problems and I said she does. So that gift card went towards a free BP machine. Cool beans! This'll help alot to check her BP when she comes home from the renal center. Her BP can at times suddenly drop several hours after dialysis and if this also happens, cause her heart to start defibbing. So it's important to keep an eye on it.

Then a In-Home Visiting Nurse came by today to access her situation and said she will start Tuesday next week, 2 times a week. Tues and Thurs on her off days from Dialysis.

We're looking to another nursing care that can come in the mornings on M, W, F to help clean her up and get her ready for the renal center and prep her a snack sack for her to take with.

She just had her first Meals on Wheels today and it was pretty good. 2 meals for 6 bux. Not bad at all. I just have to worry on Sat and Sun for her meals since they don't deliver on those days. So I'll make up a shopping list for weekend meals. Breakfast isn't that hard to do and not that expensive.

Come to find out her old doctor dropped her because one, they're full enough of patients, two, she hasn't been in his office for a year even tho they know what's going on with her. So we got an appointment for next week Tues to see a new doctor. We'll need his help to get the scripts filled so we don't worry about running out.

We got more people coming, just don't have the list in front of me, but we got quite a while before the dust finally settles.

She's resting comfortably now and asleep.

Got more stuff to do today, so I gotta take off.

    Post ya laters!

Awwwwww, my step son made a nice poster for his mom and it's pretty big, half door size. It has her name on it, with rainbow letters. Stars in the background, grass in the foreground with flowers. Has a heart as the dot for the letter i. Sunshine on the corner. Pretty kewl poster he made. I hung it up on the wall by the door so she can see it everyday.

    Well crap! Already?

Something had to happen in two days after my wife comes home.

Last night around 10 PM, my wife flashed me with the strobe light, complaining of pain in the vaginal area and asked for the cream to help eliminate the burning sensation.

So I get gloved up, yank her by the edge of the bed, push her aside so her good arm grabs rail and hangs on as I first start cleaning with the wet wipes and.....................................WTF?

Oozing out is stool from her vagina. OMG!

At first, I thought the nurses aids had done a shitty job with cleaning her up and had been shoving stool into her vagina w/o realizing it.

Then I discovered the source of the ooze. Right between the rectum and her vagina, dead center, is an ulcer. Very clearly seen, but at fast glance it appears to be a rectum, but it's not. So I began to realize that the wall between the colon and vagina, there's a breach.

So my step son called 911 while I continued to keep cleaning, hoping to get most of her stool cleaned out, but it kept coming until it finally popped out the last remaining stool and I finished up cleaning her up as the flow finally stopped.

So the EMTs show up and gets to examined a very clear view of the problem with any stool being in the way so they can get the general idea of what to do next.

There was very little blood because most of that came from my constant cleaning up. The lead makes some calls and decides that it doesn't appear to be that very life threatening, but does need to see a doctor in the earliest AM ASAP. Which we agreed to do.

8 AM, I call for the transportation service and got a bus in 2 hours. We arrive at the hospital and check into ER.

They agreed to the previous accessment from the EMTs and tells me to avoid the urinary area to prevent urinary infection. They made a appointment with a specialist for Tuesday at 2 PM. We're set with the transportation service for that day.

She will prolly require surgery to close that hole. Dunno how soon after we see the doctor to have that done.

Apparently, the culprit of the problem is that her herpies (yes I got it too, thanks to the cheating asshole, wife beating lowlife ex-husband who gave it to her. I hope he DIAF!). That is one nasty virus. Since she's sitting on her butt in bed and in the wheelchair, she doesn't make time to air out her bottom to help keep her skin healthy. So like any virus, it thrives on heat and moistness. So it ate the wall starting from her vaginal area on down to her colon which gave her stool an alternate route to the outside.

What I hope won't happen that if it continues to keep eating it's way around inside, the virus might hit a blood vessel. That's gonna put her in major trouble.

I kept insisting that she'd be hospitalized but they assured me her life is not in danger.

So they released her and since the dialysis center was only a block away, we walked there and it's a beautiful day, except for the storm that's incoming sometime this evening.

Then I go home, grab her lunch, her meds and a quick junk food from Mickey Dees for me. Then I head back to the renal center, they let me in the dialysis floor to hand her lunch, spoke to the renal doctor. Then gave her meds and checked her sugar level.

Now she's home and resting comfortably. So let's hope nothing bad happens until she sees the doctor.

Wife is doing ok, I'm worried tho. Very little cleaning today, so that's good, for the most part.

Went and got a chain with a clip on it for the strobe light flasher button so it stays on her gown and makes it easy for her to locate it since it's about the size of a silver dollar.

Had a ocupational therapist and a physical therapist come visit today to access her situation and come up with a plan that I hope works for her.

Got two doc appts on Tues and one on Thurday, so we'll have a busy week.

The doc on Tuesday afternoon is who'll look into her "situation" as mentioned above and see what he says and will do.

Making sure she stays comfortable, has all her meds, sugar check, meals (she had for breakfast: Egg and Bacon Sammich w/ Mayo, Lunch: Olive Loaf Sammich, chips and for dinner: Fettucine Alfredo, green beans, Nilla Wafers.) and whatever else she needs.

We sat together and watched some TV, watched Legend of the Seeker and a couple of episodes of House. (That last episode, wow, what a bratty little kid!)

Getting ready for bed for another episode of fun tomorrow.

    Nite guys!

Looks like the strobe light works 75% of the time, it's the time when I turn in my sleep and I am facing the wall whereas it doesn't work well, plus the walls isn't white, it's like medium pink in color (thus my step daughter's former bedroom).

I'm looking into a bed vibrator that might work better, thing is, it's pretty expensive. The one I'm looking at online so far is $56.95. http://productsforthedeaf.com/pro876706.html

The stuff I got wasn't that expensive. *sighs*, I hate it when an idea doesn't work 100% like I hoped it would. I need something that will make sure she gets the help my wife needs, especially if it's an emergency.

Lemme see if I can find some assistance for the deaf someplace.

Anyway, my wife is doing ok. Tomorrow we got a busy day. Two doctor appointments. One to a new family doctor we're looking into and the other doctor that will look into her problem regarding her bottom area as mentioned in a post above.

    Wish us luck!

    Yiz

Yiz, your wife is very fortunate to have such a loving caregiver.

May I say - why aren't you feeding her (and you) more fruits and veg?

(she had for breakfast: Egg and Bacon Sammich w/ Mayo, Lunch: Olive Loaf Sammich, chips and for dinner: Fettucine Alfredo, green beans,

Nilla Wafers.) and whatever else she needs.

Too much refined starch, fats and sugar.  Can you feed her more whole grains - like real oatmeal with dried or fresh fruit, shredded wheat, skim milk,  whole grain sprouted bread and fruit smoothies, salads?  For example fettucine alfredo is mostly refined flour pasta and processed cheese (fat).  The only good thing on this list was the green beans.  There is no nutritional or fiber benefits from most of these foods - processed meat, bread, pasta, cookies.  Refined white flour is basically sugar (turns to sugar right in your mouth when mixed with saliva) and anyone with bowel issues should be careful of refined flour, sugar, and binding foods like cheese.  She needs lots and lots of water.  More apples, oranges, pears, melons, carrots, lettuces, veg soup, fish, etc.  And there are some wonderful whole grains pastas now - like 5+ grams of fiber per serving.

    And lotsa love!
