Guess he ate too much lunch. Oh I forgot, the Dubs stopped serving lunches several years ago. It goes to show how long it has been since I went to a convention. But our little 2 days assemblies in Memphis, during lunch, instead of going to the cafeteria where everyone was supposed to like good little Dubs, there would be a long line of Dubs walking down the street to Burger King.

    KSJordan,

Yes, I also ate many a fine meal at the Burger King down the street from the old Crosstown Theater.

Remember seeing Bros. & Sis. coming back with Sears shopping bags after lunch?

I have not thought about that in years. Remember the Krystal right across from the Sears??? Hey, do you also remember the drug store that was attached to the Crosstown? And that bird they had in there and the little food area? Did you ever go over to Libertyland during the District Conventions, or wish you could? Remember how the Sunday sessions were longer than the other days? I could go on.

I keep thinking about this pic. It is too funny! Is that guy behind the sleeper cracking up or having a cow?

I gotta share a story. A couple of years ago at the District convention in Phila, where it was broiling hot, over 100 degrees F both days, and all of the "servants" who were "priviledged" to "do whatever" at the thing had hogged all of the available shade seats bec. they got in before the gates opened, (also their mates, car group members, cats, lost relatives, etc.)

I was sitting directly behind a brother and his two very young children. He was recently separated. I was single. I knew him pretty well, having had at one time attended meetings at the same hall as he in the past.

The kids were freaking out. You could burn your thighs if bare skin touched the hideous steel seats. There was not enough water. The elderly were keeling over in droves. At one point I just started crying; it was impossible to pay attention to anything. I kept pouring my little bottle of tepid water right down the front of my dress.... I didn't care what anyone said... it wasn't as bad as some of the women who were extending their legs over the seats in front, in order to get a suntan.......I HATED having to be there. I kept thinking: "theatrical spectacle"....

This poor brother couldn't stay awake. I'm sure he'd had no sleep the night before, trying to keep two small children comfortable in some slummy yuck hotel room. I felt sorry for him.... the kids could have wandered off..... I put a washcloth into the cooler of ice belonging to the people behind me (they were going to the bathroom! Bad witnesses!) and gently laid it against his neck to help him wake up. He was grateful. I was NOT 'hitting' on him.... pulease.....

Well, of course, back at the hall the following week, I got "counseled" about appropriate behavior.... here I am, forty-something years old, and ..... I looked the goof-ball elderette right in the eyes and said "Whatever" and walked away. I was suddenly "bad association."

What a bunch of **** morons.............

    Jordan,

You know, I had forgotten about that drug store until you brought it up. TN circuit 3B was many years ago (1971-1982)for me. When the Crosstown was being renovated, I went with my family to work one weekend when it was our congregation's assigned weekend to go and help out. At that time the JW's were in a huff because the drug store and the martial arts studio over the drug store wouldn't sell to the WTS. They were pretty steamed that they couldn't have the entire corner.

The corner drug store along with Burger King, Krystal and Sears were definately lunch time no-no's.

Made it to Libertyland a couple of different times, but never as part of the Summer Convention Travel Package. I've been to DC's at the Mid-South Coliseum more times than I care to remember.

Would love to know where your from, email me if you don't wish to post it here.

I did email you earlier today. But anyway, I grew up in the Helena, Arkansas congregation. I vaguely remember the big convention in 1978 when we traveled down to New Orleans. But, other than that, I remember going to Memphis 3 times a year. That was really enjoyable, NOT!!! It was really boring sitting in a very hard chair all day, worried about getting pinched or slapped for figeting. Those talks were most definitely huge YAWNS!!! I also remember some of the talks about how we should act and dress, and then look around and see people not acting or dressing that way. Oh, back when I was little I was a good little Dub. I went out in service and my goal was to go to Bethel or Gilead. I grew up and got wise to what was going on, started to see the lies and hypocrisy and now my mom is doing the same.

    Goodafternoon all!

Hey... that pic WAS priceless... I needed a good laugh!!!! Hey... did anyone ever hear of this story?: There was a brother napping at the hall during the Watchtower study and the speaker was getting annoyed that the guy never woke up or started snoring or something. After a question wasn't answered properly a few times, the speaker said something like... "well, I believe we're looking for xyz answer, isn't that right, Br. so&so?" Upon hearing his name, the brother immediately stood up from his nap and stating the closing prayer. AhAHAHAH! (I believe it's true... I just don't remember where I heard it!) There must be TONS of stories like this!
