a very weird elder

I remember an elder in my congregation gave the talk "Godly view of Sex and Marriage" in the 90's. He was talking about Masturbation. He said to the audience if you have ANY problems with masturbation, please let him know, he also said please do not be embarrassed.  Do you think he has ulterior motives for saying that?

The comment was completely out of order and certainly not following direction. I have delivered that outline no where does it ask the speaker to solicit for confessions.

Perhaps he was hoping that some women would go confess (or men LOL) so he could get his rocks off by descriptions?

can't imagine him sitting thru a meeting with a lecture be given along those subject lines. Those people are incredible with their ideas for sermons.

my vote is on him being a 'Weirdo' of major proportions. those who have to get up and make those sort of statements are most likely to be commiting that 'jw sin' them selves.

I find it odd that he had to bring up masturbation in a talk about sex and marriage. Is it normal to do so in those talks? Usually the marriage/sex talks I've heard revolve around the wife 'paying her due'. I don't think I've heard anything about masturbation before. You would assume it had to be a problem area in the congregation for him to mention it. But how would he know that unless lots had already been confessing? Weird is an understatement.

The Society did its usual job of blundering into people's lives.  Laying guilt on couples for wanting children, on and on it went.

Leaders with very bad marriages advising others.  What a mess it all became.

I would suspect that he had nefarious purposes in doing this.  This would allow this hounder to get details he is not entitled to know, and then apply some "counsel" that could amount to "loose conduct" (disregarding the hounder's authority) charges.  As I see it, masturbation is one of things that they should apply 1Thess 4:11 with (they do follow the Bible, don't they?)

Maybe, he was looking to shift somebodies shifter, or perhaps give someone the shaft(DF get your mind out of the gutter))
