No I dont believe they brain wash I believe it is MIND CONTROL a very differant thing. With brain washing it can pass through your mind that it is good, but once you try it you can decide to reject it. But mind contol is slow & sure,,, it takes a long time to instill in the mind -but it takes a LONG time to get out of the mind  ...It is as if they take the mind over  make it into a robot then put it back. My 2 cents worth.

I highlight the statement above from your post. I do not understand your statement here. Are you saying that your brother thinks it is ok to speak with you, as a disfellowshipped person, and he as a witness? Or is he not in the organization?

I have heard of no changes in the policy to shun all who are df'd.

I think Promise Keepers comes pretty darn close. As to Catholic Mass, well, if any religious celebration is brainwashing, then I suppose so. Catholicism does not erect the emotional and social barriers to the outside world that JWs submit themselves to. While I'm certain you'll find some lock-step Catholics who resemble JWs in behavior, generally speaking you do not see Catholics who so thoroughly surrender themselves. In fact, some Catholics take views that are outright wrong in the Vatican's view, but very rarely do you hear of any excommunications. Catholicism is a grown up religion that doesn't fear independent thought.

Yep. There are different levels and degrees of being brainwashed, but in any context any group of persons is being brainwashed where:

1   The leaders of the group deliberately advise the members to avoid at all costs reading anything against the group

2   There is a consistent repetition of certain messages and themes, eg, JW's are repeatedly told that the end is 'close', 'at hand', 'near' etc.

I agree too that nearly everyone on this planet has been brainwashed and indoctrinated to some extent.

I wouldn't say brainwashed more like conditioned. To say they are brainwashed seems to obsolve them from any responsability for there actions. Where you are not allowed to use free thinking or independant thinking, where you rely on most of your info from a currupt scource you can still use your power of reason or conscience. But with the org that is not possible because your reason and conscience has been conditioned from the start. No not brainwashed but spun dried with a bit of conditioner blackadder

I think this best explains the converts found from door-to-door(which I was)  While they are filling you with all this new enlightening information they are telling you in order to understand it you will have the proper heart condition.  At least that is what I was told.  So not only are you reprogramming your thoughts, what you feel can be deeply adjusted.  What was once instinctive and intuitive is taken away and taught(I found this in my case)

I was desperate for changes in my life when I learned the JW religion.  My marriage was very abusive and had no support from family and of course, had no friends.  I snuck around to study.  It seemed to be my freedom, my statement.  After years away from the abuse, I doubt that I would be receptive now.

They go door-to-door over and over to the same  houses, saying their circumstances could change and they might listen this time.  Ususally, it is only if the person has gone through a trauma of some sort will they listen.

Absolutelly braiwashed!  This is done so smoothly and in deceitfull manner that most of them have no idea what and why this is happenning to them. Then the brain is filled withs endless human made garbage "proper food at proper time".

They are drugged without knowing that. Excesive amount of indocrination in forms of wt garbage and " wise elders talks" at KH amount to hundreds of hours month after month after month.  The are getting sick without knowing it.

They are WT junk addict, no different from alcohol, drug, food, movies, porno, sport or any other form of abuse in form of constantly overdose.

They need anti wtjunk rehabilitations same as alcoholics.

The suicide rates, kilings, mental cases of extreme depressions among millions of Jw PROVE THAT  very clearly.  This is sick Cult and there is very heavy price to pay for belonging to them.
